The WordSeekers make it a practice to begin each Bible Study by receiving praise items and prayer requests from the members. We have great confidence that God hears and answers prayers because we have witnessed His sovereignty in His answers and in His timing. We are grounded in praise and prayer and have confidence in our brothers and sisters as prayer warriors.
Praise and prayer has to come from the heart and we acknowledge that these are forms of worship to be used in honoring God. On the last Monday evening of each month we meet for an extended time to share thanksgiving and praise for what God has already done and to petition Him for grace and mercy as we take the needs of His people to Him.
Prayer
The WordSeekers have chosen as their life scripture; “Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added to you..”. (Matthew 6:33, KJV) As seekers of His Word we know that Bible study consists of two parts. In order for the Word of God to be revealed to us we need to have a heart that is prepared to receive it. Since Scripture is the Divine Word of God we must ask Him for wisdom and guidance as we read. We must ask Him to come, and through His Holy Spirit, interpret what we are reading, bringing us to conviction and showing us how to apply it to our daily lives.
Prayer is communication with God. We are never closer to God than when we are humbled before Him in prayer. He is our Father and He wants to hear from us. We have accepted Christ as our personal Saviour. To know Him personally requires an interactive relationship with Him. Prayer reaches God from the prisons, from the nursing homes, from the mental institutions. He listens as intently to the prayers of a six year old as he does to those of an 86 year old. Prayer is the salve that heals the wounded, a light in the darkness, comfort to the brokenhearted, hope in the pit, and strength to the weak.
“Ask , and it shall be given you, seek, and ye shall find; knock and it shall be opened unto you. For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” (Matthew 7: 7-8, KJV)
“And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." (James 5: 15-16, NIV)
“If my people, which are called by name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)
Praise
"Praise is the highest occupation of any being. What happens when we parise the Father? We reestablish the proper chain of command, we regognize that the Kind is on the throne and that he has saved his people.
The whole purpose of coming before the King is to praise him, to live in recognition of his splendor. Praise - lifting up our heart and hands, exalting with our voices, singing his praises - is the occupation of those who dwell in the kingdom...." (From the Inspirational Bible, "Praise")
Praise proclaims God's worth! Blessings, glory, honor, thanksgiving are all delivered from our hearts directly to God. God inhabits the praises of His people as we lift our voices in song and music and lift our hearts in quiet reverence.
Our praise blesses God. Isn't it amazing that He can be blessed by us. In fact, that's exactly what we were made for, if we don't praise Him the rocks will!
“Give unto the LORD the glory due His name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.” (Psalm 29:2, KJV)
“O come let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD our maker.” (Psalm 95:6, KJV) |
